KLQ NATIONAL FINAL - 6 DECEMBER 12

Dear Everybody,

Today's national final at the Royal Court Hotel in Coventry was a wonderful conclusion to the UK heats.  As expected it was always going to be a closely fought out competition, and it was.
Two teams tied for second place and in the playoff, The Cherwell School form Oxfordshire won with St Thomas More from the Yorkshire heat coming third.  The 2012 winner was Cockermouth from the North West Heat.  This was a marvellous result for their coach Helen Farrar and her team of Eve, Madeleine, Alex and Adam.  As winners they walked away with a Serco bag each filled with goodies,
the UK KLQ trophy and assorted books and book vouchers.  We could not have done it without the generous sponsorship from, Serco, Peters Books, MLS, OUP, the SLA and numerous publishers.
Malorie Blackman spoke prior to the final about the power of fiction, Steve Thompson, the MD from Scholastic wished the teams well and Alec Williams MC'd the event brilliantly.
The Coventry Library Service were outstanding and it was their overall co-ordination that made todays's event such a memorable occasion.  We all wish Cockermouth well in the 2012 Durban World Final.

LONDON 4 DECEMBER

Hi Everyone
We had a massive author turnout tonight in support of the Kids' Lit Quiz. There were two teams of authors, authors marking and authors scoring. Thank you very much Margaret Bateson Hill, Sita Brachmachari, Dave Cousins, Fiona Dunbar, Candy Gourlay, Sara Grant, Nick Green, Savita Kalhan, Tamsyn Murray, Linda Newbery, and SC Ransom.
Yet again there was a sudden death play-off for second. It was won by Watford Grammar and the University College School was third. However, the outright winner, beating both authors' teams was City of London School for Girls. Great going Annie, Clem, Hannah and Laura.
Thank you Broxbourne School for hosting us for the ninth year straight.
Bring on the UK Final!
